Scottsdale Backyard wedding ceremony from the point of view of the flower girls.

Brian and Desi had already been together, pretty much, forever, by the time they decided to get married. They actually got (legally) married prior to this backyard wedding day, but they wanted to have their closest family and friends to witness their vows.

Well, that, but also to PARTY.
My favorite kind of couple – the chill couple who love to party.

It is always an honor when couples and their families allow me to witness their love and relationships, so to be there for Desi and Bryan was so awesome since they have a fucking FUN family. So much love and laughter on this day, and then they have a bounce house (a wedding day brinca brinca). YES, PLEASE!

Kids at weddings are the best! And these kids at this wedding, were so much freaking fun – especially in the white wedding brinca brinca (aka bounce house). I mean, look at those lovely faces.

The wedding ceremony officiant was the bride’s uncle and he was regailing the wedding guests with the love story of the bride and the groom – on how they met, what their love journey has been like and how how they have been waiting for this day. It was a very tailored officiant’s speech about the couple that was long and in-depth, and sincerely beautiful. Perfect for the couple.

By the end of their wedding night, the bride was in her “Wifey” sweats and the groom had changed into his comfy sweater – both putting on their clean Nike sneakers to dance the night away.

With the love from their family, their children and their friends, Desi and Bryan had an incredible wedding night.

Top 5 Tips from
Little Sugar Crumb Sweets,
a Tucson Wedding Cake Baker

Arizona Wedding Vendor Tips & Tricks

Neon Orange and Pink, Disco ball cake at wedding reception at El Pais Motel in Tucson, Arizona

Tucson wedding baker and Tucson small business owner, Jayleen of Little Sugar Crumb Sweets, took a moment to give her 5 top tips as a wedding vendor that she loves the to give her wedding couples who purchase wedding cakes and desserts from her.

And now, she is sharing them with you.

These are Little Sugar Crumb Sweets’ Top 5 Tips for your Wedding Cake on your Wedding Day:

Tip #1:

DO NOT PUT YOUR CAKE OR DESSERTS IN THE SUN!

If it’s an outdoor event, Little Sugar Crumb Sweets recommends keeping the cake, and any desserts, out of direct sunlight as the frosting will melt. Whether it’s your baker or your best friend putting your wedding cake out for you and your wedding guests to enjoy during your wedding reception, make sure they do not put your cake in the direct sunlight, especially for an Arizona wedding. Y’all know how that Arizona sun and heat affects everything.

So you want to be sure that they are aware of where the sun is and where it is going, so your beautiful wedding cake is not in the sun’s trajectory.

(The light in the photograph below comes from a flash, not the sun. Come on now.)

Tip #2:

THE CAKE IS YOUR PRECIOUS PASSENGER.

When picking up your wedding desserts and cake, place them on the front passenger floorboard, as it is a flat level surface, and it is more safe there than on the seat, where it can fall off. Plus, this gives you the option to have that A/C blowing down in that area to keep your precious cargo cool.

…Which bring us to tip #3…

Tip #3:

USE YOUR A/C ON WHILE TRANSPORTING YOUR CAKE.

Make sure to have the A/C on when transporting your lovely wedding desserts, BUT do not have it blowing directly on the cake as that as that can cause condensation and lead the beautiful cake fondant and icing to crack.

Tip #4:

FREEZE YOUR LEFTOVERS!

Yup, no reason to leave any wedding goodies behind. If there are any leftover servings from your wedding desserts, you can put them in the refrigerator for 3-5 days or wrap them in plastic wrap and freeze them for up to three months.

Maybe eat them for your 3-month anniversary? laughing

New Years Eve, DIY Intimate, Backyard Wedding near South Mountain in Phoenix, Arizona

Phoenix, Arizona – December 31, 2021                                                                        Candid Sol Wedding Photography

Bride and Groom at the alter sharing their first kiss during their wedding ceremony in a backyard ceremony near South Mountain in Phoenix, Arizona. Bride is holding the groom’s face. The bride is wearing a white, lace wedding dress and mid-back veil and the groom wearing a black tuxedo. In the background are the two officiants wearing black, long coat tuxedos and black and gold sashes, and the maid of honor is wearing a black, floor length dress, holding the bride’s bouquet.

An Arizona wedding just outside of South Mountain Park in Phoenix, Arizona on New Year’s Eve… Yes, please!

Kirt and Alexsis came back to Arizona to have their dream wedding with close friends and family, and it was a PARTY! This was a DIY backyard wedding that incorporated small but very present items (you’ll see some Sailor Moon wedding decor and also some lime and Tajin – if you know, you know) that were important to the couple, and as you will see, their incorporations weren’t just physical items, but truly, their wedding guests. Family is important to this wedding couple and the family was supportive in each aspect of the day.

Even though the skies got dark on the morning of their wedding day, the clouds parted literally at the time of their wedding ceremony, so it really made for some dramatic photos during a lovely Arizona sunset.

One of the most underrated things on a wedding day is showing off the chaos of a what actually happens on the big day. People are everywhere and their shit is everywhere, and THAT IS OKAY. It’s a wedding day and during the getting ready portion of the day, it’s pure chaos. I love that Alexsis and Kirt didn’t shy away from being real in those moments, and they just owned it.

Then there are those quiet wedding moments. Alexsis decided to gift her mother-in-law a meaningful gift that was a beautiful moment just between the Groom and his mom – where the Kirt presented his mom with the gift from her new daughter-in-law. Then there are beautiful wedding moments like the wedding day first look.

Alexsis did a first look with her father which was a sweet moment, and then went on to do a first touch with her husband (where Kirt read a letter that she wrote to him after they first met, but she has not let him read until this day) and that moment turned into a first look. And the excitement on Kirt’s face when he saw his bride for the first time was just priceless (as you will see).

After a stunning backyard wedding ceremony just before sunset, a taco cart, heartfelt wedding toasts, and an outfit change from the bride, the evening concluded with a few intimate moments where the bride and groom took a few wedding portraits and lovingly reminisced about their wedding day. Such a beautiful way to end a New Year’s Eve Wedding (although I am pretty sure their night didn’t end there and plenty more alcohol was consumed LOL).

Tucson Wedding Baker

Who is Little Sugar Crumb Sweets?

Meet Jayleen, the owner of Little Sugar Crumb Sweets, a Tucson baker who creates and serves delicious cakes and desserts for weddings, events, and any time you want something scrumptious. Jayleen creates undeniable treats such as cupcakes, cookies, assorted pastries, churro cheesecake bites, and – her most popular dessert – the personal-sized bento cake that you can choose to share (or not).

Jayleen currently serves the wedding couples and community of Tucson, Arizona but hopes to venture out to and serve Phoenix in the future (so don’t be shy to reach out from Phoenix, Arizona).

She really enjoys decorating and selling her vintage-style bento cakes and sweets at pop-up markets all around town.

Little Sugar Crumb Sweets doesn’t only create wedding cakes and wedding dessert tables, they also create dessert tables for baby showers, birthdays, and other special events in Arizona.

You name it, they’ll be a part of it with their sugary and cakery sweets.

Jayleen, founder of Little Sugar Crumb Sweets, grew up baking alongside her mom and aunt. That’s where her passion for baking began.

Little Sugar Crumb Sweets has been a Tucson boutique, small business for 3 years. “I’ve been baking since I was little – either by myself, with my mom or my aunt – so I’ve always had a passion for baking.” During the notorious covid lockdown, after Jayleen took a long break from baking, she started creating again after TikTok videos got her creative juices flowing.  Soon after, she kept hearing from several family members that she should be selling her delicious creations. After finding her love for cake decorating, her cake business was born, and she was now a part of the wedding vendor scene.

Jayleen has spent countless hours and efforts testing recipes (there was a lot of trial and error). After so much time in the kitchen, this Tucson wedding baker eventually perfected her unique cake receipe and it is now the recipe is what you can taste today. If you have not yet tried Little Sugar Crumb Sweets wedding cakes, then you are in for a TREAT!
